Why Two Names?

We started Big Ship Salvage in 2002 with a focus on authentic nautical lighting and ship salvage. For over two decades, we’ve built a reputation for supplying restored brass lights and maritime antiques to customers around the world.

For the last six years, we’ve operated our warehouse out of Milan, Ohio, and we’ve been surprised by how many walk-in customers have found us — even though we weren’t open on weekends, closed after 4 p.m., and never advertised locally. That steady interest told us something: people in this region are looking for something different. Something authentic.

In 2025, we opened The Nautical Trading Company in Port Clinton to meet that demand. Located in the heart of the Lake Erie Shores and Islands region — a hub for maritime tourism — our storefront allows us to connect with more people across Port Clinton, Marblehead, and Lakeside who share a love for coastal living and nautical history.

As the global supply of original brass lights continues to dwindle, The Nautical Trading Co. also gives us the flexibility to offer new, high-quality lighting and furniture that captures the same maritime character.

Big Ship Salvage isn’t going anywhere — we’re still sourcing, restoring, and shipping salvaged ship parts just like we always have. But now, through The Nautical Trading Company, we’re opening our doors to a new audience, expanding our product range, and making it easier for locals and travelers alike to explore what we have to offer.
